New as a university teacher

Are you new to teaching, or are you in the process of holding your first lectures, or just generally unsure about your role as a future teacher? As an inexperienced teacher at the university you will have the opportunity to gain a fundamental knowledge of teaching and educational work during this course.

Together with colleagues in the same situation we will help you to navigate the complex issues that are common among future teachers. The course allows you to put yourself in the role of a teacher by practicing planning and implementing teaching assignments. You will also gain insight into the rules and policy documents that a teacher should be familiar with.

Quotes from previous participants

"All the discussions very useful and interesting. Eye-opening!"

"Overall the course made me aware of problems and possibilities I had never considered."

Target group

The course is designed for someone who is newly employed as a teacher at Umeå University and has little or no experience of teaching. You may also be a PhD student with no prior teaching experience. If you have already taught several courses at the university then one of our basic or advanced courses will suit you better.
