The countries participating in the Erasmus programme are: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Slovenia, Slovakia, and Turkey.
What you can do
There are various options available for those looking to apply for a scholarship for a staff exchange. You can:
- Job shadow" a colleague at a foreign university, which means that you follow them to gain an insight into how they work and you have the opportunity to share experiences.
- Participate in seminars and workshops, such as a "Staff training week" organised by a partner university.
- Attend language courses.
Application and conditions
To be eligible to apply through the Erasmus programme, you must meet the following criteria:
- If you are visiting a university, there must be an exchange agreement between Umeå University and the host university.
- Your manager must approve the mobility period.
- The length of the mobility must be at least two working days and a maximum of two months.
- The mobility must take place at a single location for a continuous period.
- You are employed by Umeå University.
- You retain your salary during the mobility.
- A continuing education programme, or work plan, must accompany the application.

You get in touch with the university, company or organisation that you want to visit and arrange your own travel.

The funds the university receives from the Erasmus programme are limited and a selection is therefore made from the applications we receive. The selection is based on your work plan. Your application has to reach the International Office no later than two months ahead of your scheduled staff mobility.
How the scholarship is paid
The scholarship is paid to your department once the exchange has been completed. The scholarship will help to cover some of the expenses incurred in the course of the staff exchange, such as travel expenses and increased living costs. Course fees are not included in the scholarship. If you participate in a course your department needs to pay the course fee.
In order to obtain a scholarship for a visit or a course, in addition to your work plan you must also submit a trip report and a copy of your expenses claim to the International Office. The length of stay and which country you have visited determines the level of the scholarship.
When you return from your exchange, you must submit a trip report together with a certificate from the institution that hosted your visit.
