Mandatory subtitling of videos
As of 23 September 2020, the EU's Web Accessibility Directive applies to public authorities. It states that videos, live broadcasts that are published digitally (e.g., on a website or on social media) must be subtitled in the language spoken in the video.
The Web Accessibility Directive states that live broadcasts must be subtitled (in the language spoken in the broadcast) as soon as possible, within 14 days. Otherwise, the video must be removed from the website.
Order subtitles
Inhousebyrån at the Communications Office works with an external partner for subtitles in Swedish and English. When you order and publish a video that needs to be subtitled, you are responsible for the costs of the subtitles.
Subtitling in the video's own language, for example spoken Swedish to Swedish subtitles.
Subtitling by external supplier, basic price: SEK 1,100 (excl. VAT and university-wide joint costs).
The basic price covers subtitles for a video of up to nine minutes, in the language spoken in the video.
Subtitling in the video's own language plus translation, for example spoken Swedish to Swedish and English subtitles.
Subtitling by external supplier, package price: SEK 2,700 (excl. VAT and university-wide costs).
The package price covers subtitles for a video of up to nine minutes, both in the language spoken (Swedish or English) in the video and into the other language (Swedish or English).
When you order videos from Inhousebyrån
When you order a video (except for live broadcasts), Inhousebyrån automatically subtitles it, unless you specifically tell us not to do so, for example if you will not be posting the video on any websites or social media.
Need to order subtitles for a pre-existing video?
Videos that are published online must be subtitled. Even if the video was not produced by Inhousebyrån, we can help you order subtitles for it from our external supplier.
