Access to premises

All individuals present on campus must have a Umu card, which grants access to the premises you are authorized to be in. Please note that the Umu card does not function as an access card at Norrland University Hospital (NUS).

Automatic authorization

The permissions you need are automatically added to your Umu card and are determined by the unit you belong to. Automatically assigned access includes:

• Access to the building you work in 24/7.
• Access to main entrances and bookable spaces (lecture halls, group rooms, meeting rooms etcetera) in buildings on the campus where you work. Access is granted from 06:00 to 22:00 every day of the week. Exceptions apply to buildings with specific security requirements.

You have these automatic accesses for as long as you are employed.

Access to non-automatically assigned premises

If you need access to premises that are not automatically assigned, such as certain laboratories, you need to apply for it:

1. Contact the person in charge of the premises you wish to access and obtain approval via email. Typically, this would be a superintendent or head of department. Contact details can be found in the staff directory.
2. Visit or email the service office located in the building where you are seeking access and present them with the approval. For contact details, visit the Campus Services Office staff directory and select the building under 'unit'.

The following buildings have their own service offices where you can inquire about extended access:

Physics Building, contact caretaker Jörgen Eriksson.
KBC Building, contact the KBC service center.
Technology Building, contact building technician Martina Sundling.
Umeå University Library (UB), contact the library.

Manually added accesses have a maximum duration of one year. When the access is about to expire, you will receive an email notification to renew it.
