We are switching from Telia to Tele2

On May 29, 2024, we are switching telephony services to Tele2. If you have a company mobile phone, you will need to replace your SIM card, but you will keep your phone number. This page contains information on how the exchange is carried out.

Here is how the process works for those with company mobile phones

  • The head of each institution/unit will appoint a responsible person who will collect the SIM cards from the Infocenter during weeks 20–22 and ensure that they are distributed to everyone affected at the institution/unit. The exact distribution date will be provided.
  • During weeks 20–22, you'll receive a new SIM card from the responsible person at your unit/institution. If you haven't received it by week 22, contact your immediate supervisor or the responsible person.
  • You'll receive two SMS reminders before the switch, prompting you to replace your SIM card.
  • If you have a mobile subscription, replace the SIM card in your mobile phone either on the evening of May 28 or the morning of May 29.
  • On May 29 and 30, there will be extra support available at the Infocenter for those who need assistance with their mobile phones. More information will be provided.

Regarding the new subscription plans

  • If you currently have Telia package 1 with 10 GB, you'll receive Tele2 package 1 with 10 GB.
  • If you have Telia package 2 with 100 GB, you'll receive Tele2 package 2 with 100 GB. Additional information about the subscription plans will be provided.

No changes to existing subscriptions after April 30

Starting from April 30, you won't be able to make changes to existing mobile subscriptions.

However, you can order new mobile subscriptions, which will be with Tele2. Orders can be placed via teleservice@umu.se.

Porting process on May 28–29

  • At 9:00 PM on May 28, the porting of fixed numbers (090786xxxx) will begin. If you have landline telephony via Teams, you do not need to do anything—the switch will be arranged for you.
  • During the night of Wednesday, May 29, mobile phone numbers will be ported.
  • Tele2 expects that everything will be fully ported and operational by the morning of May 29. Due to manual work, there may be slight timing variations.
  • While the porting process is ongoing, there may be issues with making calls to and from the university, depending on the progress of porting for specific numbers.

Frequently asked questions

Will I keep my phone number?

Yes, you will keep your phone number.

How will mobile coverage be affected?

When switching from Telia to Tele2, coverage may differ since Tele2 operates on a different mobile network than Telia.

You can find more information about coverage on Tele2's coverage map.

What should I do if I experience coverage issues?

If you encounter coverage problems that affect your work, please report them to teleservice@umu.se, and we will escalate the issue to Tele2 for possible resolution.

Will there be any difference in price compared to before?

Yes, the basic subscription for mobile telephony will be cheaper and there is the possibility of more mobile data at better prices than before.

How do I get the new SIM card?

Each institution/unit has a designated contact person who must pick up the SIM cards at the Infocenter and who is responsible for the SIM cards being distributed to the subscribers. The distribution takes place during week 20-22.

I have an eSIM today, how does the switch work for me?

If you have an eSIM today and want to continue to have it, you must contact teleservice@umu.se by April 30 at the latest.

I would rather have an eSIM instead of a physical SIM card, how do I do it?

If you want to switch to eSIM, you must contact teleservice@umu.se no later than April 30.

What happens if you do not insert a new SIM card by 29/5 at the latest?

Your current subscription has ended. You cannot call, surf or send SMS/MMS until the new SIM card is inserted.

From what date can I change the SIM card?

It is a good idea to change the SIM card on the evening of May 28th before you go to bed - then it should work on the morning of the 29th. You can also change the SIM card on the morning of May 29th.

Why can not the SIM cards be sent directly to the subscriber's home address?

We cannot assume that the addresses in the university's personnel and payroll system Primula are completely correct. We also cannot be sure that everyone is at their home address and will receive the SIM card on time. Therefore, we believe that the fastest and safest way to ensure that everyone gets their SIM cards is for the distribution to go through a designated person in charge. The person in charge further ensures the distribution of SIM cards and gives feedback if there would be any problems in handing out SIM cards.

From when will the responsible contact person hand out the SIM cards?

We will get back to you with the exact date and time that the contact person can pick up the SIM cards in the Infocenter.

If the contact person cannot distribute further, for example because the subscriber is abroad?

The contact person may contact Teleservice, who will provide information on appropriate handling.
