Ambitionen är att kursen ska vara tydligt tillämpbar. Fokus är således på tillämpning och diskussion. Detta sker i en iterativ process vars utgångspunkt är dels egen datainsamling, dels löpande och återkommande diskussioner och reflektioner med de andra deltagarna. Kursen är indelad i tre moduler, vilket möjliggör fördjupning snarare än ett översiktligt förhållningssätt till kvalitativ forskning.
Modul 1: Kvalitativ forskningsdesign
Modul 2: Deltagande observationer
Modul 3: Intervjuer
Modul ett: Kvalitativ forskningsdesign
Kursen behandlar gemensamma frågor inom kvalitativ forskning. Exempelvis diskuteras och problematiseras olika typer av kvalitativ forskningsdesign, val av material och datainsamlingsmetoder, strategier för urval, forskarens roll och olika aspekter av etik.
Modul två: Deltagande observationer
Den delmodul som fokuserar på deltagande observationer tar sin utgångspunkt i hur dessa kan utföras på ett akademiskt rigoröst och adekvat sätt. Initialt introduceras och problematiseras vad deltagande observationer är samt de för- och nackdelar som finns med sådana metoder. Efter introduktionen övergår fokus på att träna och bygga upp en färdighet i att göra observationer genom praktiska övningar och löpande reflektioner över egna och andra kursdeltagares erfarenheter.
Modul tre: Intervjuer
Under intervjudelmodulen diskuteras intervjuteknik, däribland enskilda intervjuer samt gruppintervjuer. Inledningsvis diskuteras och problematiseras intervjuer som metod för att samla ett empiriskt material, därefter ges doktoranderna möjlighet att träna intervjumetod samt reflektera över egna och andra kursdeltagares erfarenheter.
